I posted this on Facebook a few weeks ago, but it is too fabulous not to share again on the Parker blog.
Parker loves being outside. As I've mentioned before, we often go to Lake Springfield to walk the trails. It's one of the first places besides the house or physical therapy that we were brave enough to use his walker. So when we went to Lake Springfield a few weeks ago, it was like just any other day. When Parker has his walker at Lake Springfield, he usually meanders slowly (often stubbornly) around the same short stretch of the trail. We may spend a lot of time of the trail, but we don't get very far.
This particular day, Parker zipped straight down the trail. When he's motivated, he is FAST on his wheels. But instead of sprinting for a few feet before coming to a stop, he just kept on going. He kept going all the way to the 1/4 of a mile marker, our first time reaching this point with his walker! Just look at his cute, proud little face! Tyler and I were grinning just as big. It was one of those moments when your face hurts from smiling so big for so long. But we soon had even more reason to celebrate. After we finished our mini photo shoot, he walked himself all the way back, walking a 1/2 mile in total.
Parker likes to surprise us with things like this all the time. Tyler and I will often say, "I didn't know he knew how to do that" or "I didn't know he knew what that word meant." Actions or words that have never been seen before just seem to come out of no where. I think he likes to keep us on our toes (and he's doing a great job).
Here's to the little accomplishments (and surprises) that mean so damn much.
